What are the categories will we be judged in?
Students should not have the intention of winning a specific award. The judging panel will be deciding who gets presented which award, but here’s what the judges will be looking for:
1) The most innovative way of raising funds where dynamism, spark and ingenuity are shown.
2) The most awareness raised for the charity for a brilliant ability to communicate to a wider audience.
3) The most funds raised for the charity for those who excelled in negotiation, initiative and motivation.
4) The best presentation of their fundraising project for those that exude confidence and innovative thinking.
5) The most eco-friendly method of fundraising for those that make environmental awareness top priority.
6) The overall best team/individual for a demonstration of enterprise and sheer determination.
Can I get money from the tax man?
You can get an extra 28% on top of your total donations from the Inland Revenue. So if you raise £100 you can claim an extra £28 completely free. Simply print off a ‘Gift Aid Form’ so your fundraising can go even further to help Wings of Hope.
Are the deadlines fixed?
The deadline date set for each stage is fixed. We will keep you informed of approaching deadlines as well as post updates on WOH-News, so don’t be a stranger.

Street collections are governed by strict regulations. In order to do this kind of fundraising you must obtain a permit from your Local District Council. These can take up to six weeks to obtain. The permit must be carried with you at all times when collecting.
Collections on Private Property: Collections on private property may only be conducted with the permission of the owner of landlord of the property. This includes shopping centres, supermarkets, fields, shops, offices and restaurants. Venue-to-venue (i.e. shop-to-shop) collections need to be covered by a house-to-house permit.
Follow these instructions to obtain a permit from your local council:
- Find out the phone number for your local council. You can do this simply by searching the internet
- Ask to speak to someone in Licensing
- Tell them what kind of permit you would like to apply for - i.e. Street collection or House-to-House
- They will send you the forms to fill out
- Fill out the forms and send them back
- Your permit will be sent to you
- You must have the permit with you at all times when collecting

You can increase the value of you fundraising for the Wings of Hope without actually having to do anything by taking advantage of the Gift Aid Scheme in the UK. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound donated to the Wings of Hope by a UK taxpayer, we get an extra 28p from the Inland Revenue. This means a donation of £100 can be turned into £128 without costing you a penny!
Basically, Gift Aid allows us to claim back from the Inland Revenue the tax that the taxpayer originally paid on that £1 from their wages. For it to work, the taxpayer must fill out a Gift Aid Form confirming they are a UK taxpayer and that they want us to be able to claim back the tax they paid on their donation. The more forms your team get completed, the more you can boost your fundraising total!
This is an online donations account which you can easily set up so anyone can make an online donation to you as part of your fundraising activities.
The money you raise is transferred automatically to the charity. Justgiving will automatically reclaim Gift Aid on all donations from the Inland Revenue so not only is it more convenient but also gives you an extra 28% on top all the money raised.
